Today, I was looking to find a flock of bohemian waxwings, but instead I found some dark eyed juncos and chickadees. Don't get me wrong, dark eyed juncos and chickadees are really cool birds, but they are pretty common year-round, in comparison to bohemian waxwings, which migrate from more northern parts of BC, northern Alberta, and northern Canada in general, in search of food. They fly together in large flocks during the winter looking for berries to eat, and more often than not, they get drunk from eating so many fermented berries, which is funny to watch, since they are such small birds. Unfortunately I didn't see any waxwings today, but I did see a lot of dark eyed juncos and a few chickadees. There are two species of chickadee that you can see around the south okanagan region of BC, the black-capped chickadee and the mountain chickadee, both of which I saw today.
